January 1968, the world was torn apart with the Vietnam War. Young people were burning draft cards, brassieres and anything else they could put in a pipe. he market was going down and mini skirts were going up. In Beautiful Downtown Burbank a hysterical group of young comedians burst onto the scene to sock it to you in a legion of loveable characters. Everybody appeared from Tiny Tim and Tim Conway to Richard Nixon and John Wayne. There were her and Lena Home with Johnny Carson, Jerry Lewis, the Smothers Brothers and Don Rickles plus regular appearances by Sammy Davis, Jr. with "Here come da Judge." Before long the Brits invaded with Peter Sellers, Ringo Star and Michael Caine. Even Billy Graham and William F. Buckley were part of the madness. All of these personalities, Politicians, movie stars and celebrities joined with the cast of loveable characters that included Goldie Hawn, Lily Tomlin, Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Teresa Graves, JoAnne Worley, Alan Sues, Henry Gibson, Chelsea Brown, Gary Owens and Flip Wilson. They appeared regularly in a blinding burst of blackouts, sight-gags, sketches and one-liners. s Arte Johnson's German character, Wolfgang, would say each week, "Very interesting." Then Ruth Buzzi, as Gladys Ormfby whines, "I just want to swing" as Tyrone . Horneigh asks, "Do you believe in the hereafter? Well then you know what l am here after."

"Look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls" became a national slogan after this show premiered on April 1, 1968. The network was understandably concerned that the name of the dictionary be carefully pronounced, but the cast had great fun playing with the suggestion that if anybody didn't understand anything, they should look that up in their F-F·F-F-Funk and Wagnalls. On April 22, 1968, Flip Wilson introduced the cast to Geraldine. Mod World looked at electronic matchmaking as Barbara Feldon appeared as a very horny Planned Parenthood Poster Girl and then explained her job in the Burbank Cantina as a "taco tucker." Tim Conway is an outer space Noah and one of the highlights of the program is "Laugh-ln's" tribute to Ernie Kovacs.
